Um..onions don't turn black from oxidation overnight...try it! They only turn black if it absorbs a toxin.

I received this so called tale in an email in 2007. I decided to try it, as I would get the cold or the flu twice in every winter. I peeled the onion, cut it in half, placed it by my bed and in other areas of my home. At first the onions would turn black. It is now June 2011 and I now place new onions around at least every month. They do not turn black but dry up and shrivel. I have never had a cold or the flu in 4 years. I am 66 years old on my birthday and have never seen my doctor in all this time.
